2020 Pool Season Covid-19 Impact

UPDATE JUNE 15, 2020

You can now find our COVID-19 OPERATING RULES & PROCEDURES on this designated page:

Update June 7, 2020

As we continue to prepare for a 2020 season we wanted to update everyone on our plan for opening on June 19th and beyond.

Current Operations Guidance

Currently Northern Virginia is in “Safer at Home” Phase 1 while the rest of Virginia started Phase 2 on 6/5.  This phase, like the previous, has a focus on exercise and instructional swimming.  We hope that Phase 3 will shift to allow for some recreational swimming. Our board is busy planning to open with Phase 1 and/or Phase 2 should it take effect in Northern Virginia by 6/19.  Instead of describing the limitations and differences of each phase, the chart below describes how we will be implementing each phase at our club.  If you have questions regarding these policies please feel free to contact us for clarification.  Please know that this is the first time any of us have done this.  Once we open, we will continually assess and make adjustments accordingly.  For example if we find the majority of our membership is not using the full 60 minutes during Phase 1 we could shorten that time period, or vice versa.   Our goal is for our membership to feel safe while having the best experience possible.  We will be sending out a detailed “member guide” that will outline the policies for Phase 1 and Phase 2 prior to opening along with information on our new reservation system.

Keeping Members Safe

Our primary goal when planning to open Fox Hunt is the health and safety of our members.  The limitations listed in the chart above are for your safety.  In addition to the operational limitations, what will we do to keep everyone safe?  Below is a non-exhaustive list of the changes that will be taking place at Fox Hunt in order to accomplish this.  As you can imagine many of these take a long time to plan and implement.  Some are government mandates and others are just practices we are putting in place to provide the safest experience for all our members.  While we are implementing these measures to keep everyone safe, the use of the pool is at everyone’s own risk.  You are welcome to bring your own sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and use your best judgement when coming to the pool.

  • Symptom screening at entrance (verify you do not have any symptoms)

  • Entrance moved to side-gate to prevent bottlenecks in club house/bathrooms and enforce 10’ distance

  • Signage throughout the club (social distancing, hand cleaning, etc…)

  • Hand sanitizer stations

  • Face masks for lifeguards while not on guard chair, recommended for everyone else not in the water

  • Pool use will be by reservation only through a new reservation system while capacity is limited.

  • Limiting use of the pool during Phase 1 to 60 minute shifts for 6 people, and 120 minute shifts during Phase 2 for up to 50 members.

  • All members will need to leave after their reserved shift to allow guards to clean and sanitize for 30 minutes before the next group of members enters.

  • The clubhouse will be closed

  • Bathrooms will be limited to emergency use only

  • Social distancing markings for lines at entrance (all phases) and diving boards (phase 2)

  • Guests temporarily not allowed (will reassess during season)

  • Preparing a Member COVID-19 manual with all new procedures and policies in place (coming soon)

Membership & Fees

We want you to know that Fox Hunt is focused on our current membership. The Fox Hunt board decided to limit associate memberships this year to maximize your families’ time in the pool. By allowing less overall memberships, we can not only ensure our current members can maximize usage of already limited time at the pool while giving us additional crowd control  should Virginia open up pools completely in late June/July.  We will still take in new associate members but the numbers will be reduced from previous years.

Due to the late opening and limited pool use in Phases 1 & 2 the board voted to reduce fees for permanent and associate members this season.  You can find the latest pricing chart at https://www.foxhuntswimclub.org/membership. While we are still looking to generate income

to get through this season we believed that our members should not pay 100% of a regular season rate.

If you have not signed up yet, you can do so at https://foxhuntswimclub.formstack.com/forms/registration with the new rates reflected there.  If you are planning to renew your membership and have not done so yet, please try to do so as soon as possible.

If you have already signed up and paid for your 2020 membership, you have options:

1. Credit: The difference between the 100% 2020 rate and the reduced 2020 rate will be applied to your 2021 fee.

2. Donation: Donate the difference in the two rates to Fox Hunt Swim & Tennis Club.

3. As always Permanent members have the option of paying an inactive fee this year ($100 + $80 maintenance fee) to keep their accounts in good standing.

We will send out a separate email to those members directly affected by this.

Additionally this year we will be allowing our members to gift/donate a membership to previous members that are no longer able to return this year due to a COVID related hardship.  Please contact Rosemary Battles at treasurer@foxhuntswimclub.org with your selected option or if you’d like to gift a membership to an affected family or make a separate donation to Fox Hunt Swim Club.

Cleanup Weekend

Cleanup weekend will be held 6/13-6/14, a sign-up email will be sent out to active members. This will be your chance to earn back your maintenance fee. If you can’t make cleanup weekend or would like to volunteer on a separate day, contact Joe Coombs (grounds@foxhuntswimclub.org) for more information.
